Thanks for putting this together, @producerlevi

This was a really fun one to do. Hopefully I properly encapsulated the monumental win.

One final note: I apologize for using the word "patented," profusely. It's a term of art and I simply could not break myself of the habit.

Patented datamizzou quirk.

As usual, the Verdict was incisive. This team’s defensive prowess is truly special.

Thanks for doing that 10+ year dive to look at those 365 games!

The context to me was very impressive. Sure, kansas has lost by bigger margins over that period. They've lost to lower ranked teams. Yet I put a big emphasis on shooting variance. If a team is lights out from three point range, they can push up the margin fairly easily.

That's not what Mizzou did.

No, they absolutely brutalized ku's offense for 30+ minutes and were by far the more physically dominant team. In fact, I'd wager no team has done both of those things to the extent Mizzou did. But for a five minute stretch in the second half, this could've gone down as one of the most comprehensive demolitions of Self's kansas teams.

Once the emotions and adrenaline wore off for me, this was my conclusion. It hit me on like Wednesday that at one point Mizzou was up by 24 simply by outplaying and being more aggressive than ku. This wasn't a Mizzou goes on a heater, kansass shoots horribly, and Mizzou gets lucky sort of game. It was a beat-down (sans the five-to-ten-minute stretch you mentioned) in a style/approach that seems to be the identity of this coach and team.

I agree, Nate. There’s a toughness they exude, end-to-end, which seems inherent to these particular players and their coaches. Perhaps it is rebounding from that beating they took in the 2d half at Memphis. And, I suppose, having 3 teammates from KC where the rivalry is seething, and a 4th one who hails from Wichita, with 2 of the 4 being team captains, and 1 of the 4 being the most tenured Tiger, surely did not hurt. Nevertheless, Tamar made a post-game statement, “This means we are one of the best teams in the country, and we didn’t have to beat Kansas to prove it”, to ourselves. So, the kU victory may not be the only surprising win this team has in store for the pundits.

We may all (justifiably) despise Bill Self, but his record with 4 days rest is phenomenal. Thankfully ku's primary cheating method is now legal for everyone. Even with that, he is still winning at a blue blood rate.
